Capabilities
The Portable PFS - which operates with the NASA Gas Delivery System - forms a portable respiratory facility capable of performing a wide range of respiratory and cardiovascular measurements. These includes:
- Cardiac output, Pulmonary Blood Flow
- Functional Residual Capacity
- Lung Tissue volume (Volume of pulmonary capillary blood)
- Total Lung Capacity
- VO2, VCO2, VE (Breath-by-breath or Mixing-bag-system)
- Respiratory exchange ratio VO2/VCO2 (Breath-by-breath or Mixing-bag-system)
- Fractional inspiratory and expiratory volumes, FIO 2 and FEO 2, FICO 2 and FECO 2
- Alveolar Ventilation
- Vital Capacity
- Dead Space Volume
- Expiratory Reserve Volume
- Forced Expired Spirometry
- Residual Volume
- Tidal Volume
- Heart Rate
- ST measurements
- ST slope
- Arrhythmia’s
- Systolic Blood Pressure
- Diastolic Blood Pressure
- Mean Blood Pressure
The Portable PFS contains two basic modules for analyzing the gasses in the inspired and expired air:
- Multi-Gas Analyzer (PGA for measuring three gases (SF-6, CO2, R-22)
- Oxigraf analyser for Oxygen measurement
Other subsystems
The PFS contains a number of subsystems to measure other parameters:
- Ambient Conditions Monitoring Subsystem (ACMS)
- Relative humidity (Range 0…100 %RH)
- Temperature (Range of 5…50°C)
- Pressure (Range of 800…1100 hPa)
- Differential Pressure Flowmeter (DPFM)
- Flow range -15 l/s to + 15 l/s.
- Turbine Flowmeter (TFM)
- Flow range -10 l/s to + 10 l/s.
- 12-leads ECG system (ECG)
- Measure among other: Heart rate, ST measurements, ST slope, Arrhythmia’s
- Non-Invasive Blood Pressure System (NIBP)
- Brachial based on measurement of Korotkoff sounds .
- Measures: Systolic Blood Pressure, Diastolic Blood Pressure, Heart Rate and Mean Blood Pressure
- SpO2 Pulse Oxymetry
- Measures Oxygen Saturation (Range 70%-100% and measure also heart rate)
