HISTORY
The Space Shuttle mission STS-107 was flown with the orbiter Columbia. The Space Shuttle carried the small commercial Spacehab-laboratory with scientific instruments in the cargo bay. The mission was launched on January 16, 2003. The mission lasted 15 days, but upon return on February 1st, 2003 the Shuttle and it seven-man crew was lost.
EQUIPMENT
As a direct follow up project on the RMS-II equipment Danish Aerospace Company and CIR developed ARMS (Advanced Respiratory Monitoring System) Project.
ARMS includes a number of equipment updates mainly in the areas of the number of gases possible to measure. Also updates in the Data Management Unit as well as the Man-Machine Software have been included compared to RMS-II.
Although the STS-107 mission ended in a catastrophe, it is the fact that nearly all the science data from the ARMS experiment was obtained and used by the scientists after the mission. ARMS worked 100% through the mission and all data were captured and downlinked.
